Get Smart

California electric-vehicle maker ZAP has cleared the last hurdle in its effort to import Smart Fortwo microcars for the American market. Environmental Protection Agency approval came in mid-April, and ZAP is already preparing to begin deliveries of the two-seater to dealers in the United States. ZAP reports substantial demand for the car. At the same time, Smart parent company Mercedes-Benz has canceled plans for a Smart sport/utility for the U.S. market and has no plans to bring other Smart models to the States anytime soon.
